My Semester Classes (past & present):
- Computer Science 100: The Computer and Society
This course is an introduction to computer concepts, technology, issues and applications. Students will learn the fundamentals of Internet research, E-mail, Web page publishing, word processing, spreadsheet and database software using a PC. The positive and negative impacts that computers may have on individuals and society are explored.
- Computer Science 103: Internet and World Wide Web Essentials
This course is an
introduction to Internet resources, terminology and social issues. Topics
include the World Wide Web, Web browsers, search tecniques, Web page creation,
electronic mail, newsgroups, discussion lists, and FTP.
- Business Applications 148: Advanced Windows XP
Continued instruction in Microsoft Windows features. Topics include: Windows accessory applications, using Paint, sharing data, multimedia accessories, using Internet Explorer and the Web, editing the Start menu, adding additional components and maintaining your system.
- Business Applications 188: Excel
This course is an introduction to Excel spreadsheets including formatting, graphics, and formulas common to business applications. It will help prepare student for MS Excel Certification.
- Business Applications 189: Excel Application Projects
This course is a continuation of BA188. This course will provide an opportunity to develop a typical job-related Excel project. It will allow students to expand problem-solving skills with Excel software.
- Business Applications 190:
PowerPoint
This course is instruction in the essentials of presentation graphics using PowerPoint. Students will learn how to design and produce presentation material for business including transparencies, slide and screen shows.
- Business Applications 198 25: Desktop Computer Security
Learn to practice safe computing at home and work by protecting your computer from attacks by the millions of intruders that exist today. Students gain practical experience implementing security using freely available software. Topics include why security is important, how to create and maintain a secure environment, and what to do when security is breached.
- Business Applications 150: Introduction To Geographic Information Systems
This
course is an introduction to the concepts and uses of Geospatial Information
Systems (GIS) and its role in analysis and decision making. Course work is
based on the mapping and spatial analysis capabilities of the ArcView software
program. Students will be introduced to basic cartographic principles, maps,
scales coordinate systems and projections and apply these principles in their
map making. Students will use ESRI's ArcView 9.3.
- Business Applications 151: Intermediate Geographic Information
Systems
This course is provides further study in ArcView, it is a
continuation of the skills and concepts learned in Introduction to GIS. Course
work is based on the mapping and spatial analysis capabilities of ArcView
software. Students will be creating and editing spatial data, geocode data,
perform spatial data processing and conduct spatial analysis. Students will
use ESRI's ArcView 9.3.

- Adobe
Photoshop Beginning
This is a two day class using Photoshop CS4. Students will gain
practical experience using Adobe Photoshop with a focus on correcting
digital camera and scanned images problems. We will delve into such topics
as the Photoshop work area, tool usage, layers, cropping and straightening
photos, sharpening techniques, fixing exposure mistakes and removing
red-eye.
- Adobe
Photoshop Intermediate
This is a two day class using Photoshop CS4. Students will gain
practical experience using Adobe Photoshop with a focus on correcting
digital camera and scanned images problems. We will delve into such topics
as: color correction, adjusting flesh tones, converting color photos to
black & white, retouching portraits, reducing freckles, wrinkles,
removing blemishes, dark circles under the eyes and whitening teeth.

Photoshop Advanced
This is a two cay class using Photoshop CS4. Students will gain
practical experience using Adobe Photoshop with a focus on correcting
digital camera and scanned images problems.. We will delve into such topics
as: repairing scanned photos by removing specks, dust and scratches;
restoration of old photos, colorizing black & white photos, creating
photo montages, and preparing photos for various types of output.

Photoshop Special Projects
This is a two cay class using Photoshop CS4. Students will
gain practical experience using Adobe Photoshop with a focus on correcting
digital camera and scanned images problems.. We will delve into such topics
as: repairing scanned photos by removing specks, dust and scratches;
restoration of old photos, create Duotones, vignettes, realistic pencil
sketches from a photo and panoramas.
- Intro to Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
An introduction to the concepts and uses of
Geographical Information Systems. Topics include the GIS history,
applications, data structures and sources, tools, software, and resources.
This class uses ArcView 9.3.
- MS Outlook 2003 - Beginning
Learn how to send and receive e-mail messages, use the calendar to keep track of your schedule, use the contacts list to manage your addresses, use the task list to manage your to-do's, and use the journal to keep a log of important activities.
- MS Outlook 2003 - Advanced
Learn advanced e-mail features such as using the out-of-office assistant and adding signature and formatting to your messages; learn how to use and organize Outlook's folders, automatically manage, sort, and delete e-mail messages, and how to use Outlook to collaborate with other users and with other programs.
- MS Outlook 2007 - Beginning
Learn how to send and receive e-mail messages in this new user interface and the basics of this format including: how to use the calendar, the contacts list, the task list, and the journal.
- Excel - Beginning
This course is an introduction to the creation of worksheets using MS Excel 2003.
It includes entering data, formulas, formatting, cut, copy, paste and
printing. Prerequisite: Good working knowledge of computer keyboarding and
any other computer software program(s). This class is not for beginning
computer users.
- Excel - Intermediate
This is a two cay class using MS Excel 2003. This class offers additional topics for students familiar with the basics of Excel including functions, templates, database applications, sharing between applications and charting.
- Excel - Advanced
This is a two cay class using MS Excel 2003. This class covers advanced procedures utilizing all Excel features including database, macros, scenarios and job related tasks. Make sure to bring 1 high density disk for PC to class.
- Access - Beginning
This course is an introduction to the database concepts MS
Access 2003. Learn data entry, forms, queries, and report generations.
Prerequisite: Good working knowledge of computer keyboarding and any other
computer software program(s). This class is not for beginning computer
users.
- Access - Intermediate
This course is a continuation of the concepets learned in the
Beginning Access course using Access 2003. Learn to use Database Wizards,
export data to Word and Excel, perform queries and filter records in a
database file. Prerequisite: Access - Beginning.
My Community Service Classes (past & present):
- Digital Photography
Don't just take snapshots! Learn how to operate and get the most out of your digital camera. Get tips on taking great portraits, sports shots, landscapes and video. Next you'll download your photos and retouch them using Photoshop. Finally students will use Windows Movie Maker to combine their video and still images into their own movie.
- Photoshop Fundamentals
Photoshop is the most advanced photo and artwork manipulation program on the market today. Learn how to sharpen and color correct your photographs, combine two or more photos into one, use filters and add text with a personal touch.
- Microsoft Office Aplications
Word, Excel and PowerPoint are the most common applications used in business today. This class will help you to be a more productive user of these Microsoft Office applications. We will focus on creating professional looking PowerPoints and Word documents as well as making sure you can use Excel successfully. Software covered: The latest version of Microsoft Office suite - Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
